Irish Tech Connect / SEO FOUNDATION

Basic SEO for Small Businesses Get the Foundations Right.

A practical SEO foundation for small websites — clear pages, sensible search targeting, clean metadata, basic local signals and a website that is ready for future growth.

Basic SEO is not a promise of overnight rankings. It is the essential groundwork that helps search engines understand what your website is about and helps the people looking for your services find the right pages.

Think foundation, not fireworks: if the fundamentals are wrong, advanced SEO has to fight through the same problems later. Basic SEO puts the important building blocks in place first.
01 / WHAT IS INCLUDED?

Seven foundation areas that make the difference.

ITC Basic SEO is designed for small local businesses and simple service websites. The aim is to make each important page clear, relevant, accessible and ready for future growth.

01 / PAGE TARGETING

Page / Query Targeting

We decide what each important page should be found for and what search intent it should satisfy. The goal is to give every page a clear job rather than having several pages compete for the same topic.

In practice: we map core pages to the most relevant customer searches, usually concentrating on a small number of high-fit primary queries rather than creating a giant keyword list.
02 / SEARCH APPEARANCE

SEO Titles & Meta

We create or improve the SEO title and meta description for the important pages so the topic, service and value are communicated clearly in search results.

In practice: titles and descriptions are written for people first, with natural query relevance — not keyword stuffing or plugin-score chasing.
03 / PAGE STRUCTURE

Headings & URLs

We review the H1 and heading hierarchy, page structure and URL/slug so the page has a clear subject and a sensible, readable address.

In practice: headings organise the information; URLs stay concise, meaningful and stable unless there is a genuine reason to change them.
04 / INTERNAL DISCOVERY

Basic Internal Links

We connect related pages so visitors can move naturally through the site and search engines can better understand how important pages relate to one another.

In practice: service pages should connect to useful supporting pages and clear contact/conversion routes using natural anchor text.
05 / INDEXABILITY

Indexability Checks

We check that the important pages are accessible to search engines and are not accidentally blocked by common settings such as noindex, incorrect canonicals, robots rules or sitemap problems.

In practice: this is a foundation sanity check — not a full enterprise crawl or deep technical SEO audit.
06 / LOCAL FOUNDATION

Basic Local SEO

For local businesses, we make the location, service area and genuine business details clear on the site so the website makes sense for local search intent.

In practice: we look for consistent business identity, location/service language, contact information and sensible local structured-data opportunities where appropriate.
07 / STRUCTURE + MEDIA

Basic Schema / Media SEO

We review suitable structured data and the SEO basics of important images: relevant filenames, useful alt text, sensible formats and context.

In practice: schema is used only when it matches the real content, and alt text describes images for accessibility and context rather than acting as a keyword list.
08 / PLATFORM QA

Rank Math + Final QA

Where WordPress and Rank Math are used, we configure the relevant foundation settings and run a final review before handoff.

In practice: Rank Math is a control and QA layer. A green plugin score is not treated as a Google ranking score.
02 / WHO IS IT FOR?

Built for small websites.

The Basic SEO service is deliberately bounded. It is ideal for simple business websites where the goal is to establish a sound search foundation rather than run a large ongoing SEO campaign.

Local businesses

Trades, services, sole traders, small professional firms and local operators.

1–10 core pages

Brochure sites, service sites and smaller WordPress websites with a manageable page set.

One-time foundation

Businesses that need their site prepared properly before deciding whether ongoing SEO is worthwhile.

Basic SEO should be boring in the best possible way.

The work should be clear, repeatable and explainable. A client should be able to ask “What did you change?” and receive a useful answer rather than a mysterious report full of green scores.

The Basic SEO Foundation is about getting the important things right: page purpose, search relevance, metadata, internal connections, indexability, local signals and sensible structured data.

03 / WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED?

Basic means properly scoped.

Basic SEO is not a disguised advanced campaign. When a project moves outside the foundation scope, we say so and recommend the appropriate next tier.

Not full technical SEO

Large crawls, complex rendering, migrations, deep indexing analysis and major technical remediation belong in higher-tier work.

Not ongoing content

Regular blog production, topic clusters and large content strategies are separate workstreams.

Not link building

Authority campaigns, digital PR and link acquisition are not included in the Basic Foundation.

Not enterprise SEO

International, large-scale e-commerce, complex multi-market and governance work require specialist programmes.

05 / FAQ

Basic SEO questions.

How much does ITC Basic SEO cost?

The current planning band is €250–€750 for a one-off foundation, with the final quote based on page count, scope, complexity and required implementation. Pricing is not fixed solely by the number of keywords.

Will Basic SEO get me to number one on Google?

No. Basic SEO establishes the foundation for search visibility. It cannot guarantee a ranking position, traffic level or lead volume because those outcomes are influenced by search systems, competitors, the market and many factors outside the provider’s control.

Do I need monthly SEO after Basic SEO?

Not necessarily. Some small websites mainly need a good foundation. Others will benefit from ongoing optimisation, content, Search Console analysis, local growth or technical work.

Can a web developer do Basic SEO?

Yes, provided they understand and correctly implement the fundamentals. Deeper technical or strategic SEO should be handled at the level of expertise the problem requires.

What happens when my website needs more than Basic SEO?

The project should be upgraded rather than quietly expanded. ITC can move the work into Growth, Advanced or Specialist SEO depending on the evidence and business goal.

Does a Rank Math green score mean my SEO is good?

No. Rank Math is useful for configuration and QA, but its score is not a Google ranking score and should never replace human SEO judgement.
